There's Still Hope - The God of Faithfulness - Sunday, September 12, 2021

The sermonic song outro “YOU’VE BEEN! LORD, YOU’VE BEEN SO FAITHFUL” was the perfect intro to the next topic of our latest sermon series, There’s Still Hope!  Each time I hear this song, the word B-E-E-N resounds in my spirit. “Lord You’ve BEEN, CONTINUOUSLY FAITHFUL,” it reminds me that God was faithful, yesterday. God is faithful, today. And God will be faithful tomorrow.  I am talking about the God of Faithfulness.  In Lamentations 3:21-23 (KJV), the Prophet Jeremiah penned these words, 21 This I recall to my mind; Therefore, have I hope. 22 It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: Great is Thy faithfulness.”  When all is well…children are excelling, clean bill of health, happy marriage, and money’s a flowing, we can shout, agree with, and maybe even dance about the goodness of the God of Comfort, Faithfulness, Peace, Presence, and Love! But what happens when things don't go so well?

Now does the God of Faithfulness change His nature, characteristics, and identity when we are corrected, told “NO”, made to wait, sick, stressed, marriages on the rocks, finances in a vice, children living la Vida loco? No, He does not. God is continuously faithful! Forever faithful! And will always be faithful!

But we, like children, tend to focus our attention on the immediate circumstance, while forgetting all He has ever done for us in the past.  During these moments, like our children, we may say things like: “You don’t love me!” “You forgot about me”, “You never let me do anything!” “You always say, “No”!”, and the list goes on!  Can we recount the many, many times that the God of Faithfulness has provided for, protected, and promoted us? We, very much like, Jeremiah in Lamentations 3:1-20, fervently exclaim the ongoing encounters with afflictions brought upon him/us by GOD.  We too MAGNIFY the moments and minimize the God of Faithfulness’ past MOVEMENTS in our lives.

My dear sister and my dear brother, don’t let the vision-distorting fog of life keep you from seeing THE F.O.G. (The Faithfulness of God). Turn on your trust defroster and see God for Who He really is, in the midst of your situation. Jeremiah’s situation did not immediately change. His focus did.  He minimized the moment of being besieged, broken, and bombarded and MAGNIFIED the Mercies…the Loyal Love of God!

As humans, we tend to fall in and fall out of love, but The Faithfulness of God’s love covers us, The Faithfulness of God’s love cares for us, and The Faithfulness of God’s love continues loving us! How can we conclude that God continues loving us? The greatest example of that love, is noted in St. John 3:16 (KJV), “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” The God of Faithfulness’ love keeps going, and going, and going outlasting the Energizer Bunny. Therefore, we can endure in the F.O.G. Great is Thy Faithfulness!
